Steve Matteson is a Louisville, Colorado designer who manages a global Monotype team. He has designed corporate faces for Android, Citrix, Microsoft, Nextel and Xbox for more than 25 years in the company. Steve often researches and lectures on the work of typographer Frederic Goudy and has, among many others, revived Goudy ‘s Bertham, Friar and Tory Text. He is a printer of letterpress printer, a musician, an author, avid cyclist.


Open Sans is a humanist typeface san serif designed by Steve Matteson, Ascender Corp’s Type Director. This version contains a complete set of 897 characters, including ISO Latin 1, Latin CE, Greek and Cyrillic. Open Sans was designed with a straightforward, open shape and a neutral yet friendly look. It has been optimised for print, web and mobile interfaces and its letterforms have excellent readability characteristics.
