After gaining international acclaim for her work with Enric Miralles, Carme Pinós set up her studio in 1991. She has worked on various projects since then, ranging from urban refurbishments and public works to the design of furniture. At the same time the Barcelona architecture has developed her brand and reputation across Europe and South and North America, her thoughtful approach to design, anchored by a relentless emphasis on innovation and study, has made her work gain worldwide recognition.
Current projects
Her current projects include the Regional Office of the Generalitat in Tortosa (Spain); the architectural complex consisting of the Gardunya Square, the Massana School of Arts, the residential block and the western façade of the famous La Boqueria Market in the Historic District of Barcelona (Spain); and the Masterplan for the historical centre of Saint Dizier (France). The Department Building of the University of Economics and Industry of Vienna (Austria), the Cube II Towers in Guadalajara (Mexico), the Caixaforum Cultural and Exhibition Centre in Zaragoza (Spain), the Zona Universitaria metro station in Barcelona and the Crematorium in the Igualada Cemetery (Spain) are among her most significant recent completed projects.

Educator
Carme Pinós blends teaching with her work as an architect and is actively involved in the creation and delivery of lectures, courses and workshops around the world. She has been a visiting professor at many universities, including the IUAV in Venice, the Architecture Schools of Paris, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf, the University of Columbia in New York, the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University, the Accademia di Archittetura di Mendrisio in Switzerland, the University of Lausanne.
Recognition
In 2016, California State Polytechnic University in Pomona, in recognition of her career, awarded her the Richard J. Neutra Medal for Professional Excellence. She was awarded the Berkeley-Rupp Architecture Professorship and Prize in 2016, appreciating her contribution to fostering women’s advancement in the field of architecture and her community engagement. She was awarded the Creu de Sant Jordi Medal in 2015, one of the highest civil honours awarded by the Government of Catalonia to individuals and organisations for their cultural and social services. She won the First Prize at the 2008 Spanish Architecture Biennial, the 2008 Catalan Government’s National Award for Public Architecture, and the High Council of Spanish Architects’ National Architecture Award.
For her exceptional contributions to architecture, she was elected an Honorary Fellow of the American Institute of Architects in 2011 and a RIBA International Fellow in 2013.
In many galleries, museums and universities, her art has been widely displayed. The Centre Pompidou acquired the scale models of the Caixaforum Zaragoza in Spain, the Hotel Pizota in Mexico, and the Maison de l’Algérie of Paris. The Cube I Tower model currently belongs to the New York MOMA set.
