Lucky Strike Designer Award

The Lucky Strike Designer Award is the most prestigious design award in Europe, valued at € 50,000. Since 1991, the Raymond Loewy Foundation has given it out annually. The Raymond Loewy Foundation was established by the world’s second-largest tobacco company, which handed over the foundation to Stilwerk GmbH in 2013.

This civil law-based non-profit recognises globally renowned designers whose work or life’s work has changed social or cultural life.

An independent jury of design professors, accomplished artists, and other members of the art and design scene selects the applicants for the Lucky Strike Designer Award and the Lucky Strike Junior Designer Award, as well as the annual nomination.

Raymond Loewy Foundation

The Raymond Loewy Foundation was established in Germany after a significant Raymond Loewy exhibition in Berlin in 1990, which BAT’s Lucky Strike cigarette brand funded. It aims to commemorate the artist Raymond Loewy’s life and work and elevate the design to the status it deserves in the public eye. Later on, similar foundations arose in other nations. The Raymond Loewy Foundation is an integral part of the BAT Group’s Lucky Strike brand and public relations strategy.

These works, which they displayed for the first time in 1957, were called affiches lacérées (torn posters).
