Frank Nuovo (1961 – ) is best known for his role as vice president and chief designer at Nokia, the telecommunications company. 


Nuovo studied product and automotive design and graphics and communications design at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California.


He worked for Designworks USA/BMW in the 1980s, a multinational design firm headed by Charles Pelly. Furniture, medical instrument, and electronics design and the design directorship of Nokia devices were among Nuovo’s projects for Designworks.


Nuovo joined Nokia in the 1990s and worked on the Nokia 232, 2110, 2120, 3110, 6110, 8810, 7110, and 9110 phones. In addition, he became the artistic director and designer for Vertu Communications, a Nokia offshoot.

Nuovo’s technical and design background included membership of the Industrial Designers Society of America and the National Museum of Modern Art’s Business Board. He has also been involved in design education, teaching at the University of Industrial Arts in Helsinki, the Domus Academy in Milan, and the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena.
