Pedestal Table

A pedestal is originally the base support of a column in classical architecture. A pedestal in furniture may have one of four definitions:

  1. central support for a tabletop or chair seat;
  2. one of a pair of sets of drawers or small cupboards used to support a flat top, as in a kneehole desk or PEDESTAL desk;
  3. a pedestal stand, a freestanding piece of case furniture used in pairs to flank a sideboard in 18th
  4. Base support of a column or sculpture, when appearing as a decorative detail on a piece of furniture, is a common motif on architecturally inspired furniture.
