Alessi PSJS Juicy Salif Citrus Squeezer
designed by Philippe Starck
On a sunny spring in 1989, Philippe Starck was vacationing on the island of Capraia, enjoying a traditional Italian meal. He was sipping wine and chatting enthusiastically while waiting for his lunch. When baby octopus, caught that morning, arrived at the table, Starck began squeezing a lemon over it to enhance its flavour. Suddenly, he stopped and rummaged through his bag for a pencil. He pushed his plate aside and started doodling on the napkin before him. A mystical realm filled with fantastic creatures with long legs and enormous heads came to life in a matter of minutes. On closer inspection, they were citrus juicers. Alberto Alessi reacted similarly when he saw the sketch on the napkin. Although he had asked for a vase, creativity knows no bounds. This is how the most controversial citrus juicer of the twentieth century, the Juicy Salif, was born.
This Philippe Starck design is perfect for the kitchen, but its aesthetic value makes it suitable for display in any space. Even though most of your guests won’t know what it is, it makes for a great story or a special surprise when given as a gift.
