American furniture making has undergone various eras and fashion trends. There were 13 significant periods in American furniture history: Early American, Colonial, Pennsylvania Dutch, Federal, Sheraton, American Empire, Shaker, Victorian, Art Nouveau, Arts and Crafts, Art Deco, and Modern/Contemporary. French and British furniture design, as well as the materials that were available in each manufacturing region, had a significant influence on each of these styles.
