Stefan Lindfors is a Finnish industrial designer, interior designer, film director, and sculptor. In 1982, he graduated from the Åbo Cathedral School in Turku. He went on to study architecture at the University of Art and Design Helsinki, where he graduated in 1988.

Biography

Lindfors first gained public and critical recognition with his lamp “Scaragoo,” which he debuted at the Milan Furniture Fair in 1988 and was later manufactured by the Munich firm Ingo Maurer. He has also produced artefacts for Arabia, Iittala, Marimekko, and Martela, all of which are Finnish design houses.   Lindfors has also directed short films, TV shows, advertisements (including Nokia and DNA Oy) and music videos (including HIM’s “Funeral of Hearts,” which won the “Best Music Video 2004” award from music magazine Kerrang!).

Recognition

The Väinö Tanner Trailblazer Award (1992), the Milan Triennale Medal of Honour (1986), the Georg Jensen Prize (1992), the Association of Finnish Interior Architects: Best Interior (1993), the Chicago Athenaeum Good Design Award (1996 and 2010), Design Plus Frankfurt (1999), and the Tokyo Design Award (2001) are only a few of the many honours Lindfors has received.
