The Emeco Za stool is a 2021 design by Naoto Fukasawa. Emeco makes the collection in Hanover, Pennsylvania, using 80% recycled aluminium. Its round seat and open base give the stool a simple outline.
Emeco translates the Japanese name Za as “a place to sit”. Fukasawa conceived the round stool as a companion to the company’s Navy chair. The connection concerns a shared family of furniture rather than a claim that the two seats are identical.
The collection pairs a circular seat with a metal frame. The photographs show how a change of finish affects its appearance: bare metal emphasises the material, while colour makes the same form more prominent. The group photograph presents these finishes together, making the differences in colour easy to compare.

The counter and bar options have seat heights of 63.5 cm and 76 cm respectively. This updates the earlier article’s reference to three heights. Outdoor use and warranty. The manufacturer lists the hand-brushed and green powder-coated versions for outdoor use. By contrast, its hand-polished small stool is marked unsuitable for outdoor use.
