Jasper Morrison: Minimum Design by Gabriele Neri introduces the British designer’s work within 24 Ore Cultura’s Minimum Design series.

Design for everyday life

Morrison’s practice spans furniture, lighting, tableware and everyday products. Born in London in 1959, he studied at Kingston Polytechnic, the Royal College of Art and Berlin’s HdK. He opened his Office for Design in London in 1986.

His early work explored ready-made components and familiar forms. Projects such as the Handlebar Table, Thinking Man’s Chair and Plywood Chair show different approaches to constructing everyday objects.

Understanding Super Normal

In 2006, Morrison organised the Super Normal exhibition with Naoto Fukasawa in Japan. The exhibition provides useful context for his interest in familiar objects and their place in everyday surroundings.

For readers approaching Neri’s book, this perspective offers a starting point: consider how an object fits into daily life alongside its appearance.
