By Lassen is a Danish design brand founded in 2008 by the Lassens’ relatives. It focuses on iconic designs created by Mogens and Flemming Lassen.

Mogens (1901-1987) and Flemming (1902-1984) Lassen are Denmark’s most famous architects and designers. Both were well-known Danish functionalism and modernist architects who received numerous prestigious medals and awards.

By Lassen, led by Mogens’ grandson Sren, continues the brothers’ design philosophy by producing iconic Lassen designs. It also produces products by other designers that complement its functionalist style. The company’s mission is to carry on the tradition of timelessness, functionality, and quality. Furthermore, it aims to introduce new generations to its design heritage.

Its All About Feeling

Sharing the brothers’ design legacy with future generations is a goal of Lassen’s. The Danish National Art Library has a sizable collection of the brothers’ previously undiscovered designs and buildings. Many furniture designs were only ever constructed once for the specific home or structure they were made for. Therefore, items that were never produced are still available at auction today. The Lassen brothers’ architectural and furniture design collection exemplifies Danish design’s best aspects and merits greater recognition. To that aim, we respectfully and carefully chose the furniture designs we want to bring back into the world. We hope that they will serve as enduring symbols of the Danish design tradition that has given rise to so many talented designers.

Life as Architects

Among the earliest Danish architects to work with functionalism were the Lassen brothers. For Mogens, the style particularly defined him. His perception of structures and designs was undoubtedly ahead of his time. Large windows, unusual arches, square designs, and open kitchens, as we know them today, were all features of his architecture.

Mogens and Flemming maintained their studios where they operated their enterprises. They also entered their distinctive designs in competitions. Flemming Lassen and Arne Jacobsen collaborated on the award-winning Sllerd Town Hall for a long time. Their design for the “House of the Future” won an exhibition at the Forum.
