Alison Miller (b.1958) is a British Designer born in Sevenoaks, Kent.

Education

She graduated from the Royal College of Art with an MA in Furniture Design. Since her work has developed and diversified and the relationship of nature to the built environment is a central theme.

Biography

In her freelance practice, she designed a chair in 1986 with textile designer Caroline McKintey that was widely published. She designed a bedroom furniture collection for mass production by Indian artisans for India Works in Chelsea.

Style

Her aesthetic is clean and clear – reducing, simplifying and uncovering underlying patterns. She prefers to inject gentle humour, visual poetry, narrative and a sense of place into her work.

Recognition

She won the 1986 Prince of Wales Award. Her 1987 Mirror Lamp won the second prize in the 1987 Design Council competition ‘British Design in Japan.’
