Alexander Girard Designs for Herman Miller, 2nd Revised & Expanded

by Leslie Pina (Author), Stanley Abercrombie (Foreword)

Alexander Girard, one of Herman Miller’s famous designers in the 1950s and 1960s, added creative textiles to Eames’ and Nelson’s furniture. As the head of Herman Miller’s Textile Division since its inception in 1952, he produced some of the most vibrant fabrics available anywhere. He also created the Girard Group, a 25-piece modern furniture collection, and the Environmental Enrichment Panels, a 40-piece series for Action Office 2.

Girard’s folk art collection decorated Herman Miller buildings and filled their Textiles & Objects Shop in New York. They filled the Girard Foundation with almost 100,000 artefacts. Girard is one of the most renowned designers of the twentieth century, thanks to his work as an interior designer and architect and his extraordinary textiles for Herman Miller. This book is a complete perspective of Girard’s work at Herman Miller and a must for anybody interested in mid-century design of textiles, interiors, or graphics, with over 400 essentially colour images of his textile and wallpaper designs, all of the EE panels and furniture, with thorough narrative, history, and an updated value guide.
