Abdi Abdelkader (b.1956) is an Algerian designer. He was born in Algiers.
Education
He studied at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts. Algiers and École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, Paris.
Biography
The encounter with Alessandro Mendini at the beginning of the ’90s was significant. He collaborated with various companies, including Glas, Forum Design and Bisazza, for which he developed a collection of articles for the Artinmosaico project.
Abdi Abdelkader the designer, was a professor at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Algiers. He established his design studio; was briefly the artistic director of Forum Design, Korea. He designed furniture collections in Algiers and for the French embassy; furniture clients included Artistes et Modèles. He created the 1980 Buffet Saha sideboard sponsored by VIA (one of its first projects) and produced by Benoteau. He taught at École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, Paris.
Exhibition
Abdi Abdelkader’s buffet was shown at 1990 ‘Les années VIA’ exhibition, Paris Musée des Arts Décoratifs.
